About the Friends

The Friends were set up in 1965 with the primary purpose of providing support to the patients and staff of the hospital, then owned by the National Health Service. The Friends are a registered charity (number: 258638)

Since the hospital returned to community ownership in 1998 the Friends have risen to the challenge of the support the hospital now needs. In September 2001 the first hospital charity shop was opened in Hartley Wintney High Street and this has been joined by a second in Odiham in July 2004. These shops, together with the very successful events organised by the Friends, have provided a lifeline by which a very substantial contribution is made each year to OCHRE to cover the hospital utilities and maintenance expenses. In addition to this the Friends have always been ready to support equipment purchase requests, from air mattresses at over £3,000 each to basic kitchen utensils.

Volunteers

Hospital teas and flowers. We always need volunteers to serve teas at the hospital and to look after hospital flowers. Enquiries should be made to Mrs Veronica Bunting, The Long House, High Street, Odiham, Hampshire. RG29 1LF.

Shops. The Friends' shops also depend entirely on volunteers and enquiries should be made at the shops, or to Mrs Noreen Quarrell at 01256 703468.
